If you have a number of teeth that are beyond saving, you may be recommended to wear dentures when you visit PMDC Dental. Keeping care of your dentures is important. Because of this, you will want to know some of the important things you can do to help keep care of your dentures.
One of the most important things to do when it comes to taking care of your dentures is to clean them. With you placing them in your mouth, you want to make sure they're free of germs that could cause infections and other problems inside your mouth. This means brushing them, though not with toothpaste, as toothpaste is too abrasive and may damage your dentures. Instead, brush them with hand soap or dishwashing liquid. You should also avoid using bleach, but an ultrasonic cleaner is an option. However, it is not as effective as hand soap or dishwashing liquid. Brushing your dentures on a daily basis as you would natural teeth is the best way to keep them clean.
You also need to make sure to take care of your dentures when they're not in use. When you're not using them, you need to keep your dentures moist. If they dry up, it is possible that they may lose their shape and not fit correctly into your mouth anymore. You may be provided a denture soaking solution to keep them in by your dentist, but if not, you can purchase it. It is also possible to keep them in water instead, which may be the better solution if there are any dental attachments on your dentures, as the denture solution can cause wear on those attachments. However, if you do keep them in water, make sure to keep them in cold or cool water. Hot water could cause them to lost their shape, which again would make it difficult or impossible for them to properly fit inside your mouth. Not to mention the damage they may cause to the inside of your mouth if you stick them in after they've been soaking in hot water.
