Sometimes teeth are so far beyond help that they need to be replaced. PMDC Dental offers several options for having teeth replaced. Before consulting with your dentist about possible options, it may help to learn about some of the various options that are available.
If you are only having one or two teeth replacing, then you may be able to do with regular dental implants. This procedure is when replacement roots are implanted into the bone socket of your missing tooth, and then a replacement tooth is inserted in. This tooth can be colored to match the rest of your teeth, and can be temporary or permanent. Its function will be exactly like the tooth you lost, and you may get so used to it that you won't even think about it as a replacement. This can also help negate any difficulty you may have developed with eating or talking because of your missing tooth.
If too many of your teeth are missing, you may need to wear dentures to replace them. Dentures are one of the oldest types of tooth replacement around. They can come in partial or complete. Partial dentures are used in cases where there are still some healthy, natural teeth left in your mouth. Complete dentures are for when all the teeth in your mouth need replacing. Getting dentures can be a somewhat complicated task, as the dentists needs to make a cast of the exact shape of your mouth so the dentures will fit in correctly. It can also be somewhat difficult to learn to eat and speak while you have your dentures in.
Another option for tooth replacement are bridges. Bridges are used to hold teeth implants in place. They are placed on the two teeth on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth while the implanted tooth is held in place by the bridge. Getting a bridge will require several trips to the dentist while your teeth are prepared for the bridge to be placed on them, as well as getting the tooth implant and bridge itself eventually put in place.
