If you have misaligned teeth, one of the things you may have done at PMDC Dental is to have braces put on. Braces are designed to straighten out your teeth. Before having them put on, there is some preparation you may want to do to make having the braces easier for you.
One of the first things you will need to do in preparation for braces is determine the type of braces you will get. The most traditional types of braces are metal wire braces, and are usually used to treat severe cases of teeth misalignment. However, if you only have a minor case of misalignment, it may be possible for you to have clear teeth aligners placed on instead. Clear teeth aligners are made from plastic, and are generally less visible than braces are. Unfortunately, they are only mainly used in minor cases of misalignment, so if you are dealing with major misalignment, they may not even be an option. Still, it never hurts to ask if they might be an option for you.
Stacking up on soft foods and pain medication would also be a good idea. Hard, crunchy foods are generally not good foods to eat with braces, as you risk damage the braces by eating them. With your braces on, you are going to want to limit yourself to softer foods. In addition, getting braces on can lead to pain in your teeth, and getting them tightened can also lead to pain. You may want to have plenty of pain medication to help with any pain you deal with, though the pain usually goes away after a few days.
Another thing you may want to stack up on is orthodontic wax, which is also known as braces wax, dental wax, and a few other names. This type of wax is applied to the metal wires to help prevent them from irritating the insides of your mouth. In addition, if one of the wires breaks, you can coat it in wax to try and help prevent it from doing too much damage to the inside of your mouth until you can get it fixed.
