There are many types of dental procedures you can have done at PMDC Dental. It will help to look at some of the most common types of procedures done, and what usually is the cause of having each procedure done.
Wisdom teeth removal is one of the most common types of dental surgery out there. Very often when third molars – Often called wisdom teeth – Begin to grow, they don’t grow properly, and can have a negative effect on the gums and other teeth. They can run the risk of misaligning your other teeth, and in extreme cases, can even be the cause of other teeth coming lose. Therefore, if wisdom teeth begin to grow and cause issues, it is common to have them removed before they can cause too much damage.
Implants are another very common type of dental surgery. Humans only have two set of teeth: The ones that initially grow and fall out as kids, and the ones that grow after the first set fall out. Unfortunately, it is possible to still lose teeth from this second set, and there will not be a third set to replace them. That’s where dental implant surgery comes in. Often times, implants are used to replace lost teeth, whether for purely cosmetic reasons or to make eating less awkward.
Root canals are also a common procedure, and are often a result of tooth decay. In this type of surgery, the pulp – Which is a small tissue in the center of a tooth – Is removed, and then the tooth is cleaned of any damaged or dead tissue and filled. The idea behind a root canal is to prevent the complete loss of a tooth if it has decayed, as a decayed tooth can be painful or even run the risk of falling out.
Another common procedure is teeth whitening. Despite best efforts to keep teeth white, sometimes the foods we eat can cause them to become stained. Foods like sodas, coffee, and snacks are the most common culprits. With a teeth whitening procedure, peroxide-based material are used on the teeth to help remove stains and return them to their original white color.
